I’ll start out by saying, this mascara was tested in the ocean and if it gets a seal of approval after that, (which it does), it is a keeper.
When you delve into the world of clean beauty and free yourself from all those harmful ingredients, —I will be the first to say it’s overwhelming to find products that are natural and give you results.
How do I know if this mascara is clean? Do natural mascaras work well? Will it give me the same performance as my conventional brand?
That is why I am here! I am here to research and be a resource!
I will never write a review about a product that I have not used for a while. I can give an honest critique on this Lily LoLo Mascara because I have used it now for about 3 months and brought it with me on my beach vacation.
I am a mascara girl. If there were only one beauty product that I had to choose to use every day—it would be mascara. Hands-down always mascara. I don’t even need to think about it—just give me my tube of mascara and I will happily walk onto that deserted island, but not without the mascara.
So, let me give you the low-down on this Lily LoLo Mascara.
Color: It is a true jet black.
Performance-wise: I find that it both defines and lengthens. I haven’t found it to clump much (maybe a little at the end of the tube). I do 1 coat for a very natural look, and I do 2-3 coats for a big, glamorous lash look. This mascara has never flaked on me and the coolest part, I wore it into the ocean, catching waves and it didn’t run, smudge or smear. Now, it may have if I was consistently under water, but I was not. A few waves caught me off guard and pulled me under, but other than that my head was mostly above the water. But sea mist, and splashes didn’t mess with it.
Texture: I find it to be a creamy consistency, that goes on smooth.
What it is Without: All the ingredients in this mascara are 100% natural. It is free of chemicals, parabens and preservatives. It is also vegan.
Real Talk: I do find that the end of the tube can get a little clumpy. Also, you need to ensure that the cap is on tightly because it will dry out.
TIP: How I remedy the end of tube situation, as well as the life of the mascara—I add one drop each of Young Living’s lavender, cedarwood and rosemary essential oils. Not only does this even out the texture and extend the life, but it also strengthens your lashes. I call these three oils the DREAM TEAM for hair.
Here is what each of those essential oils do in the mascara tube:
Lavender: It helps promote healthy hair growth by assisting needed nutrients and vitamins to the follicle to help fuel healthy growing hair. It, also, has circulatory benefits.
Cedarwood: Helps support stimulation the hair follicles by increasing circulation. Cedarwood will also add moisture to your lashes.
Rosemary: Rosemary is rich in antioxidants and may lower DHT (dihyroxytestosterone) that can improve hair growth. It is also said to promote healing.
Other Natural Mascaras I Like: Per-fekt Lash Perfection Gel Mascara. I have used this one multiple times. I have probably bought and gone through 2 tubes to date. It has a silky-smooth texture. I find that it can flake a little, but not so much so that it would stop me from buying it again. A little of this mascara goes a long way. I, also, have added my essential oils to this formula too.
On the Look-Out: Young Living is in the process of making their first-ever mascara and I couldn’t be more excited. I know that it will be completely clean, chemical free and that it will perform—because I have never used a product from the company that didn’t do exactly what it said it would. As soon as I get my hands on it, I will test it out, announce it on social and write a review! It may turn into my one and only.
Considering we can absorb up to 5 pounds of chemicals into our body, per year from daily cosmetic and skincare use, now, more than ever it’s time we take charge of our routines. It isn’t just mascara. If you put it on daily, so it is accumulating chemicals in your system. Ditch and switch!
I truly feel so thankful to be able to live out my passion through this blog and more importantly, help others become aware and do better by replacing simple things, like mascara.

Disclaimer: I only use Young Living Essential Oils because they are therapeutic grade. Please, be very careful as what essential oils you use on your eyes. I, personally, will only ever use Young Living. Here’s why—other oils that are on the market are usually purchased from 3rd party growers, distilled many times (this equals less potent) and because of poor labeling laws bottles that read “pure” can contain chemicals, pesticide byproducts, or are purposefully cut with other ingredients to lengthen their oil harvests. Not cool. Your skin can get burned, inflamed and irritated. For that reason, I strongly suggest if you do this, you use Young Living oils. I do not want you in pain or having skin irritations/allergies because you used another oil that was not recommended here. Also, realize they we are all different. I have used my oils and never had any reactions, please be the judge of what is best for you.
